Lille - Culture

New cultural, associative and family establishment, le Grand Sud is a unique place in the region. Of a very high architectural and technical quality, entirely modular, it makes it possible to combine artistic influence with popular culture and conviviality.

Designed by the City of Lille, this cultural, family and associative venue is intended for the inhabitants of the district, and more widely for all the inhabitants of Lille. It hosts concerts, shows and workshops organized by associations and cultural actors.

The Grand Sud is above all a place allowing all projects, the most intimate as well as the most ambitious thanks to its modularity.

Located in a new business and residential area, the Grand Sud is surrounded by the active urban park, a new social center, renovated establishments, a sports hall, a nursery school, a music school and a media library.

A true nerve center for all these establishments, this place is intended to establish a partnership with all these structures and to develop concerted activities.

On February 9th, a screening of the 1941 film Dumbo will be held in this space, free of charge with reservation.

Until February 14th, discover the exhibition EXPERIENCE GOYA at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, a new kind of exhibition that plunges you into the world of the artist, a genius of the beautiful and the strange.

With more than 80 original works, half of which are signed by the Spanish master, this exhibition offers the visitor an immersive, aesthetic and sensory experience (videos, soundscapes...) at the heart of the artist's creative act and sources of inspiration.

The exhibition also proposes to discover the posterity of Goya from the 19th century (Delacroix, Manet, Ensor) to the 21st century (Salvador Dali, Henri Cartier-Bresson, the Chapman brothers) as well as in the cinema (Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, Guillermo del Toro...).

EXPERIENCE GOYA is a journey to the heart of the work and soul of Goya.

For the first time, the Palais des Beaux-Arts is committed with this exhibition to an eco-responsible approach that meets strict rules for sustainable development.

The museum closes at 6 pm.

Come aboard the Archimède, the floating bar-restaurant! It is in front of the Esplanade in Lille that Archimède has dropped anchor. Open 7 days a week in continuous service, the Péniche Archimède can accommodate 200 people on 3 levels.

An atypical place to enjoy a generous bistro cuisine, but also a unique setting in Lille to enjoy the banks of the Deûle!

Raw and noble materials, touches of colors give the place an industrial and chic style. The plus: the roof terrace with a breathtaking view on the banks of the Deûle!

As for the menu, the dishes are very varied, as well as the prices. You will be able to taste aperitif boards to share with your friends, or the dish of the day if you come for lunch. On the whole, the restaurant is not overpriced, and the food is local and very well prepared. On Sundays from 11am to 12:30pm, come and try their brunch!

Reservations are required to access the barge!

Hours:

The Méert house is a famous Lille institution founded in 1761. Located in the heart of the Old Lille, it is famous for its confectionery specialties and pastries typical of the Lille region, such as the waffles filled with Madagascar vanilla.

You must visit this place when you are in Lille! Even if it is only to admire the sublime front of the store, classified as a historical monument.

The house presents a flamboyant style where orientalist echoes are found, with its gilding, its coffered ceilings and its wrought iron balconies. The materials used, precious woods, gilding, copper, glass and marble, accentuate the impression of luxury.

The interior of the Maison Méert is divided into three distinct parts:

- The first is the store in the right part of the building (seen from the front), where you can buy waffles, chocolates, marshmallows and all other products, except cakes, mignardises, macaroons and vienoiseries. It is possible to access this store without going through the main entrance (a glass door opens directly onto the rue Esquermoise)

- The second area is this time in the left part of the building (still seen from the front) where you can buy the cakes and mignardises presented in the window (as well as the waffles, macaroons and pastries)

- The third part of the building is the back room, where the tea room and the gastronomic restaurant of the house are located. During the summer season, this area is enlarged by the opening of the glass roof, in the courtyard, behind the house.

So don't hesitate any longer, come and discover this famous institution, where you can also buy sweets, cakes, tea, as well as spend a good moment in their tea room tasting delicious pastries!

Founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre within the walls of her own palace, the Notre-Dame Hospital remains one of the last remaining testimonies in Lille of the actions of the Counts of Flanders.

Until March 13th, 2022, you can discover the installation "at the time of the renarts". The museum has invited the Collectif Renart for a carte blanche: the room of the sick. They have thus metamorphosed this emblematic room according to the imagination of the artists of the Collective. A certain number of frescoes composed in situ reveal the ancient heritage and history of the city as much as the museum's collections.

The scenography of the presentation incites the public to dive into the heart of an experience composed of visual and sound anachronisms, playing with historical winks and local symbolism, integrating the city of Lille in the same way that Lille integrates urban art. In the revisited patient room, space and time mix and intertwine; eras and codes confront and respond to each other.

Colors, energy, calligraphy, detour, sound devices, touches of humor are on the walls of the museum. These original creations describe the richness of today's urban culture and echo the graffiti that already adorn the city's buildings.

Price. 2€50 for the visit of the sick room.

Bar Bernadette:

From the outside, the Bernadette looks like a traditional bar in the old town of Lille. But once the entrance door is crossed, we find ourselves in an atypical decor, in an atmosphere of Berlin bar.

The bar takes on the appearance of a real cabinet of curiosities of Lille's nightlife, a heterogeneous mix of second-hand furniture and decorations from antique dealers and second-hand goods dealers.

On the first floor, you'll find a large wall of mirrors and DJ sets every night to get in the mood! On the first floor, you will find different rooms each with its own atmosphere, in a very original and cosy space. On the menu, you will find the bar's flagship cocktail: the Bernadette, made with vodka, strawberry puree and champagne.

You can sit back and sip your cocktail and eat tapas, available on the menu, at very affordable prices.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 5 pm
