Bordeaux - Culture

Dernière mise à jour : 30 janv. 2022

The Espace Darwin is a multicultural place hosting companies, associations, restaurants, a grocery store, a sports complex (skate-park, bike-polo field...) and workspaces.

This former disused barracks on the right bank of Bordeaux is now a must-see place for people passing through the city.

You will also find in the central alley a very large Emmaüs, where you can hunt for secondhand stuff. (Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 1pm to 6pm)

The Darwin space regularly offers animations: concerts, parties, sports competitions, projections, exhibitions...

A very nice bookstore is also accessible in the central aisle. You will find a large number of books in French but also in foreign languages. (Open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm)

Darwin wanted to create an innovative space, while respecting the history of the place. This ecosystem of companies, dedicated to sustainable development, innovation and ecological transition welcomes a large number of visitors every year, and their bet to transform this place is well succeeded. We strongly advise you to discover this extraordinary place.

Access to the Darwin Eco-system is free. Drinks at the bar/restaurant are very affordable and the setting is very nice.

The access to the skate-park is 5€ for the day.

The MÉCA hosts the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine-MÉCA (Fonds régional d'art contemporain) and two regional cultural agencies

Their objective is to generate creative hybridization and to become a tool to accompany the new cultural economies, a true hub for regional artistic creation.

Open to the public, the Méca offers interactions and encounters to the inhabitants of the district and the city, and to national and international visitors.

The Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA, whose public service missions include the dissemination of contemporary art, will offer 3 to 4 major exhibitions each year in addition to its many innovative mediation activities with various audiences (schools, hospitals, media libraries, etc.). The cultural agencies OARA and ALCA will propose regular meetings with the public such as screenings or residency outings.

The CREM, a café-restaurant within the Méca, is a convivial place that will offer you a seasonal eco-responsible cuisine:

Monday to Wednesday from 7:30 am to 8 pm,

from Thursday to Saturday from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm

and the first Sunday of the month from 10am to 6:30pm.

Numerous paintings, photographs and sculptures are presented by the Fonds régional d'art contemporain and exhibited in an airy space located on the last three floors of the creation hub that is the Meca.

In a northern district of the left bank of Bordeaux, this artistic project is linked to the workshop of Jean-François Buisson, sculptor of monumental pieces. The artists can come there in residence. This place offers us access to numerous exhibitions and events within a large 18th century architectural complex classified as a historical monument.

Les vivres de l'art brings together young and not so young people, in joy and good humor, in a setting with a false air of a Berlin squat.

Open every day

Most of the organized aperitifs are free. Concerts are not more than 5€.
